Two Chicago Organizations Team Up On a $10k Challenge for Digital Health Care Startups

Two local organizations have teamed up on a $10,000 startup challenge to help ignite the latest innovations in digital health care.

AVIA, the Chicago-based healthcare accelerator, works with provider organizations to identify, execute, and scale emerging MedTech startups. UHC, formed in 1984 and headquartered in the Windy City, is an alliance of the country’s premier nonprofit academic medical centers. Together, they’ll host the ‘UHC Startup Challenge: Innovation Delivered,’ a competition providing five digital health care startups with the chance to pitch in front of a live audience; the winner will receive $10k and advisory support.

“We’re committed to continuing to foster the adoption of innovative new products with the potential to revolutionize health care,” said Linda Finkel, president of AVIA.

The event will take place from October 23-24 in Las Vegas and will be judged by 1,800 health care professionals at Revolution, UHC’s annual conference. Audience votes will be tabulated in real time following a panel moderated by leading industry experts.

“We’re pleased to co-host the 2014 UHC Startup Challenge with AVIA,” said Irene M. Thompson, UHC’s president and chief executive officer. “The UHC Startup Challenge showcases the newest advancements in our industry, and sparks more ideas to transform health care. Through platforms like this competition, we continue to collaborate with our members to drive the revolution in health care.”
